How to Apply for your Marriage License in New Jersey
Obtaining a New Jersey Marriage License:
If you live in NJ, you apply for it in the town you live in.
If you are both from out of State, you apply for it in the town that you are getting married in.
There is a 72 hour wait. This means if you want to get married by the weekend you must get your license by Tuesday. But please if you can help it, don't wait until the last minute.
Many towns’ Vital Statistic offices require you to call for appointment first. Rules can also vary from town to town.
I highly recommend that you contact the office that you will be applying at first, to get the most current information.
When you apply for your license, you will need the name and address of the person officiating your ceremony. I will provide this information to you once you have booked your date.
NJ law requires that you bring 1 witness who is 18 years or older with you when obtaining license.
NJ law requires that you have 2 witnesses at ceremony.
You must bring your marriage license with you to your ceremony. Your witnesses and I will sign our parts. I will file your license with the appropriate town clerk and provide you the information you need to obtain your marriage certificate.
